“I’ll remain in PDP even if others leave” – Seyi Makinde

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that he will remain in the party regardless of any coalition moves ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Makinde made this statement during the Southwest PDP caucus meeting held at the party’s Olusoji Adagunodo Southwest Zonal Secretariat in Ibadan, where he addressed key issues affecting the region and the party’s future.

Amid growing speculation about political alliances, the governor made it clear that the PDP in the Southwest remains united and unshaken.

He questioned the credibility of those forming coalitions.

“Who are these people in this coalition? They’ve moved from one party to another – does that mean they’ve changed or have anything new to offer Nigerians?” Seyi Makinde asked.

“Coalition is not a threat to PDP. We want the world to know that PDP in the Southwest is united. We’re together,” he added.

The meeting also served as a platform to condemn the withholding of Osun State’s local government funds.

The party described the action as unconstitutional and harmful to the people’s welfare.

Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, represented by his deputy Kola Adewusi, echoed Makinde’s position.

He reaffirmed Adeleke’s loyalty to the PDP and dismissed any speculation about his involvement in coalition arrangements.

A communiqué released after the meeting by the PDP’s Southwest Zonal Publicity Secretary, Chief Sanya Atofarati, praised the leadership of both Makinde and Adeleke for their dedication to the stability and growth of the party.

“The PDP in the Southwest remains intact and focused,” the communiqué stated, calling on all party structures to stay united and work towards a successful national convention.

While distancing itself from any ongoing coalition talks, the party reiterated its readiness to collaborate with citizens who share its vision of rescuing Nigeria from what it described as the “misrule of the APC.”

“Our Party remains open to working with other well-meaning like-minded citizens in the collective effort to rescue our nation from the stranglehold of the All Progressives Congress (APC).”

Looking ahead to upcoming elections in Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos States, the party expressed confidence in its chances, asserting that the PDP remains the preferred choice for voters in the region.

“We are confident that the PDP as a Party of choice in the South West and Nigeria at large will record sweeping victory in the coming elections,” it declared.

The PDP also voiced deep concern over the increasing economic hardship and insecurity under the APC-led federal government.

It concluded by encouraging Nigerians to remain hopeful and stand with the PDP in its mission to bring about national transformation.

“The 2027 election will be between Nigerians and the APC. And Nigerians will win through the PDP,” the party affirmed.
